We have many different people here. Some more experienced than others, some less. As the recent poll has shown we differ in motivations but we also differ in what we do and how we it. Things which work for one person, may not work for another.

This diversity often leads to disagreements, heated debates or sometimes even to over-the-top exchanges.

But this is ok.

Value is still here, regardless of the negatives.

Those who know less, can learn. Those who know more, can get recognition for their insights and help.

This post is to appreciate everyone who contributes.

Thank you for making such a positive-minded post, @Jan.

I also greatly value the variety in members’ characters, which boosts the utility of the forum as well as enriching its tone.

With regard to the disagreements and heated debates: I have noticed a recent uptick in accusations of “overthinking“ or “overanalyzing” confusing situations. Where necessary (and when I have dared!) I have stepped in to defend the person thus accused; but usually I have preferred to avoid inflaming the situation further.

I would point out that the beauty of this site and its accompanying forum is precisely that it permits deep analysis of difficult issues. If a member could resolve these problems intuitively, he wouldn’t need the forum. Men find this place welcoming for many reasons; one of the foremost among them is that complex interactions between people of the opposite sex can be taken apart and better understood, facilitating improved communication the next time, especially when men’s natural feel for the situation has let them down. Dismissing this as “overthinking“ basically invalidates a member’s efforts in reporting these interactions in detail and accurately, in the expectation of helpful advice.
