Empathy is lower and self-focus much higher in younger people. Especially the hot young girls / alpha young guys. Lower ranking younger guys & gals have to work harder to appeal to mates so they will sometimes be humbler.
As people have relationships and get to know members of the opposite sex more deeply, as well as as they mature and start to figure out they aren't kings and queens of the world who are going to live forever and be the most important people to ever live (probably), they become humbler and more empathetic.
You can always go for older chicks (or fatter/homelier younger chicks) if it bugs you.
Personally I find young chicks' un-humble princess frames cute in an adorable, fresh, naïve way.
younger never propose dates or call
I think this depends on the guy's busyness level.
Back when I had a 9-to-5 and a lot of extra free time I had a girlfriend who would propose things and call me on her own and I sorta liked it then.
Nowadays with me in total charge of my schedule I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do all day every day and a woman trying to propose things that she wants to do with me or trying to get me on a text or phone conversation is just another thing trying to cram its way in.

Each man must determine this for himself, based on his preferences and predilections.
It sounds like for you, at least at this point in your life, an older woman would be preferable.
