Boys ... interested in hearing your thoughts on co-living spaces.

Context - I currently (and have for the last few years) lived in a one bedroom apartment. My apartment currently is not in a cool part of town. I'm going to be moving when my tenancy ends in a month or so.

One of the options I have been considering recently is an apartment in a co-living space. These are relatively new (as far as I'm aware) but in short they are building complexes where you have your own studio apartment, but you are part of a building community which has a gym, bar, cinema room, rooftop terrace etc. The idea being that you become part of a community, make new friends etc. You can see why this would have benefits from a game perspective. Even if you took the view of not getting with anyone in the building, you would still be building quite a big social circle and would benefit from offshoots of that.

I'm seriously considering one of these, because recently I've felt like a bit too much of a lone wolf. As I've got older friends of mine have drifted away, and my 'community' is not what it used to be.

Interested in hearing your thoughts on this. Is there any downside to this that I am missing?

Sounds pretty cool to me. Living in the big city can be quite anonymous.

I guess you'll want your nieghbors to be more or less on your wavelength, so you get along with them.

Can’t hurt. If it doesn’t bare fruit you can always move.

🤷‍♂️

I lived in a place like that in Bogota. It was awesome, a great way to make friends with other digital nomad types, and super convenient (I so miss being able to take the elevator straight from my room down to the gym).

Also very easy to pull ("I live in a mansion with a rooftop bar, gym, sauna and coworking space, and world class view. You gotta come check it out!")

The only caveat I'll say is it probably depends how big the building is. The place I stayed had "only" 100 units, so there was quite a communal vibe. Like you'd go up to the rooftop bar and run into the same groups of people. But some of the massive coliving places I've seen in Bangkok have upwards of 400 units, so I imagine it might feel more like a building full of strangers sharing the same facilities.

Definitely worth trying it out though.
