Dating in Thailand?

Hey all,

I've just ended an LTR in Thailand and I am wondering if anyone has advice on the dating scene here. (my ex was from the west)

Chase/Ricardus mentions that it may be expected for men to pay for casual sex. This was the first I had heard of that phenomenon (unless we're talking about prostitutes). Can anyone either confirm or deny that for me? My lifestyle has always been sex on the first date. I'm not entirely sure how that will play out here culturally, but I certainly don't want to be shelling out cash for hookups. (I'm not going for bar girls / prostitutes)

Does anyone know of a forum specifically for Asia or Thailand where I could find some advice about the culture here? I will be dating the 18-24 age group (preferably college educated / students) as I am a young guy myself. I have heard good things about this generation compared to older ones and hopefully won't need to leave the country to find a reasonable dating scene.

You run into that as you travel; strange culture clashes. Ricardus tells me that in Thailand, it's understood that if you have sex with a woman, either you will pay her after, and that's fine, or you will enter into a serious relationship with her, and that's fine too. So long as you either pay her, or commit to her, either of those is fine; but if you don't pay her, and you don't commit to her, the woman will feel as though she's been cheated. But, to a Western male visiting Thailand, paying for a woman is often insulting, and he doesn't know or understand that a woman expects either money or commitment in return for sex. In fact, if he were to hear that those were her expectations, he'd probably think she was crazy, just as she thinks he's cheated her for not giving her either one.

I've got a couple of friends who've spent time in Thailand, they've never mentioned it either, although come to think of it they probably either paid hookers or if they got with local girls kept seeing them afterwards.
I guess the 'chickenhead' type might play the 'we've fucked now we're a couple' line kinda hard if they think you're rich. Alternatively there might be girls who'd normally charge but decide to give out a freebie thinking there'll be more in it for them in the long run but then 'revert to type' and demand money if you try to give them the flick. I'm sure if you're genuinely rich by Western standards you'd have to deal with women using sex to get stuff from you quite a lot even without going to Thailand!
