How many drafts of various posts can the system safely store for a user?

One of my drafts has disappeared. Lesson learned.

@Lotus,

The old forum software had a draft-saving feature that did not carry over to the new software.

All the old drafts are still on the old database somewhere, but we'd need to dig around somewhere to find it. Was it lengthy / detailed / sort of important?

@Space,

Good question... I don't know.

Did I quick search for "how many drafts does xenforo save" but didn't see anything.

Not sure how many you have saved, but if you've lost one, then whatever your # of saved drafts is, might be that's the cap.

@Chase - Lotus is referring to finding a draft he saved on the NEW software. How do you "load" a draft you saved on the new software?

I as well have struggled with this on the new software. There is an option to "save" and "delete" on the toolbar but there is no "load" (a saved draft) option.

One of the chieftans told me on the initial launch that it saves automatically and should pop back up where you left off when you hit the "post thread" button. I had this work once but it has also gobbled up a few drafts I had and I have yet to find them.

Now I save them in evernote and copy and paste, until it gets fixed or I find out how to load them properly.

I've never used the drafts feature.

However, I did some research and it looks like the system saves them for 24 hours, unless that setting is changed.

Past 24 hours, it deletes the draft.

My understanding with drafts is if you go to the forum you were posting in and start a new post, if you have a draft saved there (from the last 24 hours), that draft will load.

e.g., start a post in Relationships, leave the forum while you go get dinner, then come back later and it'll be there.

I just tried leaving with this post, a response to this thread... when I click the "Post thread" button in Off Topic, it's a blank post box, but when I return to this thread the draft loads (or at least, what the system saved before I left. I think it saves every 20 seconds, unless you click the save draft button yourself).

My suggestion would be if you have a long post you're writing, that you aren't certain you'll complete today, click the "toggle BB code" button, save the raw source code (so any formatting you used -- bold, links, colors, lists, etc. -- carries over), and you'll have your draft to work from later, even if 24 hours have passed and the system dropped it.

Thanks for looking into it. Rob is correct, I'd been working on an extremely long LR and was trying to go back to finish it up, but alas it's gone. It was just recently, not from the old forum.

I'll have to make sure to save drafts elsewhere if I don't think i'll be able to get back it within the 24 hour period.
