Hi all,

Are any of you authors? As in, have you published any fiction or non-fiction books?

I've been thinking about passive income streams lately, and I have always been talented at writing so perhaps a fiction book would be a good way to get some passive income streams coming in. However, there is always the risk of losing money from internet piracy. Did that deter any of you from writing an eBook? Do you have any idea whether your book has been pirated, and if so, how much income that is costing you?

Dylan,

Piracy is something everyone does. Some people download almost everything online, and some people download only movies online. What i notice with business and what they do is the content and special bonus is what makes people want to buy.

Like if you buy a song from itunes, it has a cover and it has lyrics, compared to a pirated one. What i see in the dating industry, they have offline seminars or bootcamps. Or they have that special "Mastery Package" or report, a bonus pdf that motivates people to buy even if they can get it somewhere else.

Hope this helps

Cheers for the reply Zac. I think you're right that it seems to me that the vast majority of internet-savvy people practice internet piracy to varying degrees. Presumably if you want to sell any type of content online that can be copied at next-to-zero expense (music, films, books) it's something you have to accept - but should it be enough to put you off altogether?

It's like asking Tag Heuer whether they worry if China factories replicates them. and they do, and it's a lot. The thing that makes big companies great is that they have that "edge", like ambassadors to make people feel they are Tiger Woods or Ronaldo, if they buy their products.

For Nike, they have the mercurial vapor boots. The product is expensive, but the boot is (fucking) light, and it's great.

The thing is not everyone can afford to purchase $300 boots once every 4 months. So they made different versions with slight tweaks. The Mercurial Vapor is the most expensive. Then there's the Mercurial Talaria, the semi-decent one, and there's the Mercurial Nova (or something, i can't remember), the cheapest one.

At the end of the day, in my opinion, it's about everyone manages to enjoy the product or brand, even if it means to tweak a little, to make everyone involve.
