Found Someone Better?

Hey guys,

Recently my friend has been talking about breaking up with his girlfriend of two years for a girl that matches his personality better. Problem is, if he breaks up with her, he still has to see her at school, and he gets along with her friends pretty well. He's worried about the aftermath and looking like an asshole. They still get along well, and she probably would think this was "out of the blue".Is there a way for him to break up with her without leaving resentment or looking like a dick?

A few highlights though:
If you're friend truly wants to move on then this would probably be the best route then the whole out of the blue because at least at this rate he can do what she wants and she'll be happier for the most part.
