To me,
Successful people are very intelligent in using "Other-ism", from businessman to sports player, to musicians. I don't know if it's learn in the family or successful parents pass it to them. However, most people in society do it too, in social circles. For PUAs, we create an "us against the world" mentality.
Unfortunately, most people use it EXCESSIVELY.
IT is a less well known fact, that humans are born compassionate, kind and loving. Simple examples of us looking at a child makes us smile. So why "Other-ism" is a bad thing? Because when you drag people to one end of the world, it's often natural that you go back to the middle. We like rubber-bands, our brains are like rubber bands too, we come back. "Other-ism" works when there is value or reward, objective reasoning as to why we do "that". Unfortunately, most social circles do this, they hate the other group, create animosity, but humans are born compassionate, kind, loving. We like ants, we believe innately that everyone should work together. My conclusion? "Other-ism" is bad when lack of objective reasoning and reward that most social circles offers, it falters. and Resentment creates out of nothing (although the reason is lack of knowledge in applying "Other-ism").
IT has pros and cons if it's not applied correctly, Successful people however, not all of them are excellent in applying this as well. It's a double edged sword.
