Probably but it is totally overcome-able. You can joke about it with the girl with the jist being "Your mom wants me to be her son-in-law".
The other tack to take requires real calibration. It's not for someone who is not totally confident in themselves. It is to flirt with the mother. It is a tightrope to not be insensitive to both parties involved. But a joking appreciation of moms good looks and attention on her can trip the daughters competitive instincts. Don't go overboard with it though.
For example...Second or third date...meet the mother and she is teasing me about why her daughter's hip is out of alignment. I knew I could push it with her...
Some mothers and daughters have a closer relationship, and those are the ones where preselection from the mother is a plus. Assess that. If the daughter is kind of rebelling then play the card "hey, you mom thinks I'm a good boy. What she doesn't know won't hurt her..."
