Not exactly white knighting, but what actually happen to a friend of mine was that he was a genuine friend with the girl, whom is also my friend. It happen that halfway he like her during the friendship, so kind of put himself in a messy situation when he ask her to break up with boyfriend when he found out that he didn't treat her well.

So, it's not exactly white knighting, but a really sticky situation.
