Want to get your opinions on this, fellas, when you're familiar enough with the boards but not SO familiar yet that you're attached to even the stupid stuff (you know how attachment works): what do you think of the star over topic icons you've posted in? Is it helpful to know which topics you have a post in, or is this just ugly and annoying?

In case you're drawing blanks, here's the normal "read topic" icon:

topic_read.gif

and here's the "read topic" that has a post of yours in it icon:

topic_read_mine.gif

Basically just seeing if we want them ALL to look like the normal read icon, or not.

Let me know your opinions.

I'd say keep it. I've always been active in many forums about various things and most forums do have an icon that states where you have posted before. I think it's a basic feature and very handy, at least I use it "actively" (if you can do that).

There's that "view your posts" button in the bar at the very top of the forums, which is what I've been using. I noticed those stars, but didn't really know what they were for.

I believe the "star" icon is useful... it's just a matter of people knowing what it means. Maybe we can make a forum post somewhere that explains all of the little nuances of the forum board so that people can understand them. =)

Normally, from what I have seen in other forums, there is a legend at the bottom that explains what this icons mean. Maybe we should have that. That way it will clear things up.

I agree the star is definitely helpful though.

Absolutely agree, Jeet.

Chase, there is a legend at the bottom of main page of the forum here. Can you add the "starred" topic to that list of icons?

Id say keep it, very helpful in reminding me which things I posted on

It's helpful, and no worries about it looking "ugly". Looks quite normal and doesn't detract from the refreshingly clean theme.

Hey fellas,

Thanks for the feedback. I think the star icon is ugly and I'm going to change it to something nicer (probably the little "sticky" ball on the upper left hand side of stickies... now it'll appear on the upper right hand side of posts you've posted in), but I'll keep the "your post" notification since everyone thinks it's useful. I haven't been on a forum that used these before, this is the first time I'm seeing it... seems people like knowing where their threads are, though.

Point noted on the legend. I'll see about getting something like that up for the boards and sub-boards, where you can see a legend at the bottom similar to the one on the board index.

Cheers,
Chase

All right, we've got updated "my post" icons (you'll see those whenever your browser does its reset thing... I don't exactly know how that works, computers are mysterious magical devices), and a legend at the bottom of forum pages now, so you can see what each topic stands for.

The new icons have a much cleaner look than the awkward star design that fits better with the board, so look for those whenever your browser / cache resets.

Cheers,
Chase
