Fashion  Properly fitting shirts - is a tailor always necessary?

When shopping for shirts, I always have the same problem:
if the fit around the chest and shoulders is good,
then the fit around the waist is way too loose.
And since there is only one size scale for both (small-medium-large),
the best I can do is look for tighter models.
There usually aren't any.

So, I was wondering, do the fashionable cats on here
always take their shirts to the tailor for tightening?
Or do they know secret shops that have separate chest and waist sizes?

Loose fabric looks especially unflattering during summer
when you don't want to wear too many layers.

I'm guessing you're quite tall and in a similar position to me. I'm quite broad in the shoulders but slim round the middle.

I look for brands that do "Slim fit" or "Taylored" as they are slimmer without baggy middles. Ralf Lauren has a "Slim fit" range but they are a bit expensive. Shein also has some good fitting shirts at much more reasonable prices but don't expect quality from them, but they are ok and I have a good few of theirs.

buy a sewing machine and take it in your self. I just started doing this. Granted the shoulders fit and you don't need a lot of custom adjustments its actually quite simple.

practice on thrift store shirts.

I’m really into clothes but I don’t use a tailor because with the significant amount of shirts I own, it would end up being somewhat expensive.

Some other guys pursue a different strategy where they own few clothes but they make sure to tailor each one of them.

I guess it’s more of a “how you want to manage your budget” type of question.

in the amount of time, it takes to drive to the tailor, you can tailor your shirts yourself. Granted it gets more complicated when you are wanting all sorts of different cuts and what not, but the most basic adjustment to your average dress shirt takes like 15 minutes and is far from rocket science.

Same with the inside seem of your pants leg, as long as the waist fits well.

I go to tailor with every shirt I buy.

My shoulder to waist ratio doesn t let me even buying a suit, if the pants doesn t come with a different number than the blazer.

I was actually going to start doing this a while back. Seemed kinda complicated.

How long did it take you to learn
