I'll contribute some content for you click-happy sons of Bacchus:
1) First, if you're struggling with figuring out where to begin when building a new wardrobe, here is an infographic that provides some some solid pointers for your basic foundation of outfits (It's a business casual look. I find such a look to be quite versatile, and it says a lot of things about you that jives well with making you appear higher value without sacrificing attainability too much): https://i.imgur.com/dAQgvni.png.
My problem for a couple years in college was, when I decided to refine my style, I wanted to start with all these weird esoteric things, like fine blue suede shoes from France, metallic shiny tight jeans, or jackets that were cut in completely odd ways that even a model on a runway would struggle to pull off. I wore some pretty strange things that probably conveyed to a lot of people an "I don't give a fuck and I'm better than you" attitude (not always the best thing to do).
I would get a lot of feedback, but below the surface it usually meant, "this guy is not like us at all". Good for my individuation, bad for my social life (though I did attract some high quality males and some rather unusual females with my devil may care attitude and blasé, so there's something to be said for that.). I think that sort of thing is fine, but SUBTLETY and CONSISTENCY need to be established as quickly as you can. The foundation I linked above should help you find a solid foundation from which further experimentation may more comfortably grow.
