Seizing the moment

When I was working on the newbie assignment, I found that everything happened so fast. I would make eye contact with a girl think "Oh I just made eye contact" and as soon as I got ready to smile, the girl would be past me. I also have had this problem talking to girls or having pre-opening opportunities.

Is this something that will slow down as I get more practice? Or do I need to work faster to seize the moment?

I'm new at this stuff myself and the more experience you have the slower things get. The internal monologue inside your head starts to go away and it get's more automatic.

The key really is practice, practice, practice. Just like ANY skill.

You may be encountering girls who actually busy.

Try practicing in a different environment, such as a coffee shop. Make eye contact with people who are sitting down, or standing still or walking slow.
