I tried out a self-hypnosis thing on youtube the other day (this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7jOA0qh0Xs) and it wasn't nearly as effective as some of the times I've meditated with a group or did aikitaisos with others. Are they effective at all? Is it worth using them or just to ignore them and naturally build confidence on my own through experience?

I would think that they should be a supplement to the real endeavors of going out to talk to women not the main reliance.

I tried one on subliminal messages several years ago to increase my general confidence. I think they work. I received a compliment from one woman who remarked that I seem a lot more confident now that I did a year ago (and I didn't tell her that I had been using these programs.) Another remarked that I was very charismatic and confident and that I should work with the ladies to increase general awareness on a topic as I had expressed interest in using that topic to launch a potential side-business.

I now started one using actual hypnosis only a few weeks ago. The jury's still out on this one for me. At any rate, I find it relaxing and it helps me go to sleep easily. I do find myself waking up at some point when the program is still playing, like when it is telling me to do something. So, I believe that even though I am asleep that our ears are still able to listen to what is going on around us. As a good example, you'd wake you when you hear a loud crashing or just a knock on your bedroom door because you've been programmed to response to potential threats (loud crashes in the middle of the night) or respond to someone (knock on your door).
