Sometime at the beginning of this month, I attended a school dance, but didn't have the time to post anything until recently. Last summer was the last time I had actively sought to talk to any new girls, and hadn't given pick up any sort of thought for a while...
At the dance, I went with a bro of mine. My date was supposed to be one of the girls I had talked to at the State Fair, but she had a friend attempt suicide two days before the dance, and because she had this sort of social anxiety anyway, she told me she would not attend at the last second. ...She's one of those really temperamental/emotional girls with a lot of problems who's red flags should have been more apparent to me early on, but they weren't. We just recently cut contact altogether.
Anyway, that's neither here nor there. After social butterflying around and getting grinded on by a few groups of girls, a couple song came on and all the couples grouped together. Since I was without a date, I wandered outside the dancefloor and spotted cute looking girl sitting down with her hand on her cheek staring off into the distance. For the first time in my whole pick up career, my initial thought wasn't about how it was an opportunity to go make my balls bigger, it was true intrigue and desire to get to know someone.
I approached her table, sat down, looked at her and said,
"What's up? You look bored... What are you doing sitting here all by yourself?"
She looked down and laughed to herself a bit, and then looked back up at me and said hello. Since she didn't address the question really well, I just continued as if I had never asked it.
I introduced myself verbally, but she couldn't hear me because of the loud music, so I took out my phone and typed in,
"I'm AP
and you are?"
"My name is Shania
" she responded.
She slid the phone back to me and I acted like I was taking longer to read it so I could have more time to prepare a response. Then I typed back "You don't look like the kind of girl that wouldn't have someone to dance with... Why aren't you dancing?"
As I gave it back to her, I shot her a sort of intrigued look as she read it, and then replied to me verbally that she wasn't dancing because it was a couple song, and she was going through a break up.
"I'm sorry to hear that." I replied, "I'm guessing Semi just came with sort of bad timing for you then, huh."
"Yeah, it kinda sucks."
We bantered back and forth for a little while longer before we paused as the song began to end.
"Listen," I began, "Do you want to dance to the next couple song with me?"
She looked down again and laughed, and then said, "Sure! Why not? Meet me here again during the next couple song."
After that, we parted ways for a while and I went to dance with more girls and get more uh... friction. I stayed patiently on the hot dancefloor not wanting to miss the the couple song and ditch her like a dick, and at long last, it came. I returned to the table where we had planned to meet, and soon saw her walk my way. We locked eyes, I took her hand, and the two of us began to move with the rhythm. For someone I only spoke a few phrases to, she held me surprisingly close. As we swayed, she looked to me again and spoke,
"What grade are you in?"
"I'm a senior," I responded, "You?"
"Haha, I'm a freshman." (Dang it! Anything more than friends would be considered illegal from that point on.)
"Haha really? Dang... You don't look like a freshman to me
" I said again to which she giggled.
I turned her around and held her close once more, her back to my front, and we continued to move to the beat for a while. After a while, I spoke again and asked, "When's your birthday?"
"Novemeber something something" she replied.
"You're a Scorpio! Haha, you've got the Scorpio eyes."
She giggled again and said thank you, to which I asked, "Do you want to talk some more later?"
She said yes, but right when the song ended, I was dragged off by another girl who noticed Gangnam Style was on. This was a song that could rock because I was known last year for looking like PSY. I got a bit carried away and lost her while a crowd began to gather around me as I did that super unsexy but easily recognizable dance. Eventually, we did find each other again though, and as promised, I took her hand and led her downstairs so we could talk without blaring music in the background.
As we walked downstairs, I already made the decision not to escalate this one. She was no older than 15, and I was 18, and the possibility of sex with her that night wasn't worth possible jail time. Still, I maintained a flirty tone in my voice and gestures, and the two of us talked for almost the remainder of the night. The subjects ranged from my impression of her based on her sign, what she liked to do for fun, her past as a drug user, to singing. Like me, she sang in her spare time, and she wanted to hear me sing. There were trash cans blocking off a place we weren't supposed to go, which we bypassed so nobody else could hear us sing. I sang Foreigner, and she sang Adele.
"Wow haha. And you're trying to tell me this is what you sound like on a bad day?" I remarked.
"Yeah! Haha, my voice hurts from all the yelling today."
"Well, you sound fucking awesome, and it sorta makes me wonder what you sound like on a good day then... What can I do to get you back onstage?"
"Nothing! Haha, my voice squeaked in front of the whole crowd.. I'm not ever going back up there."
"Well I told you I'd never sing in public either right? What if I did? Would you show your pipes to more than just me if I did that?"
"Haha, maybe. You'd have to belt it out somewhere where there was a lot of people, like a supermarket!"
"I'll take that as a challenge
"
We talked back and forth for a little while more before I checked the time and found out the dance was ending in 5 minutes. As we walked back upstairs, I asked if she wanted to dance with me one last time before the dance ended, and she said sure. When we got back to her table where her friends were though, a guy her friends were trying to match her up with had been looking for her. He had a necklace which he gave her, and then asked her "Can we have the last dance?" Surprisingly, she turned to me and asked if it was okay, to which of course, I said okay. Nothing good can come between her and I anyway, and I wasn't about to deprive the other guy if he could legally make something happen.
This pretty much ended the interaction between her and I for a while. I saw her in the hallway once before break, but found out she didn't have a phone or a facebook, so there was pretty much no way we could continue the interaction. She's friends with a lot of my female friends though, so it's more than likely that her and I will cross paths again some time. I'm not sure if this counts as a field report, because I didn't have any intention of trying to escalate. Believe me though, if she was within the legal age range for me, I would have. This interaction in my opinion went much smoother than any of my summer ones.
