Something I've always struggled with is rocking banger outfits in the summer.

I've gone with a typical buttoned down leaving the first 3 buttons opened and I've had positive experiences hitting on chicks with it.

But nothing comes close to my fashion in seasons besides summer, where I can have more than one layer and throw in a light scarf.

I live in a city where it's so hot during the summer that it's unimaginable to consider more than one layer, day or night.

I'll spend December in my home country, a tropical island where it's gonna be peak summer.

Feel free to drop any pics, IG male models for inspo, anything really.

Edit: Also lemme know what sort of pants you wear. Tight jeans are way too hot.

Linen!

It is from the flax plant. Mall brands like H&M are starting to carry cotton/linen blends (pure linen's better), but it used to be more known only by the super wealthy.

I was once stopped by a suit store owner in his 90's. He was amazed to see it. He said outside of Italy, most people think it looks too wrinkled but it's like a "if you know you know" type deal.

See here the blue shirt and white pants on the right (though you often see white shirt, cream pants). He was formerly dating the King of England's goddaughter, princess of Greece and Denmark.

There is also very lightweight "tropical wool" more for suits, but you could possibly pull off wool trousers in more casual settings.

Linen shirts are a staple for me, Zara have some nice ones with no collar. Can't beat it rolled up at the sleeves, together with boots, a tan, and a 5 o'clock shadow. Perfect for the rough but stylish look.

This is something I also think about a lot, living in hot countries most of the time.

There's a great style guide by a guest on GC about summer fashion. I overhauled my wardrobe recently based on this advice.

The biggest question for me is pants. I hate shorts, but the weather is too hot for jeans. I have two pairs of loose fitting white pants from Zara which go well with just about anything.

Usually pair with either suade leather boots or blue loafers, and loose-fitting shirts from Uniqlo.

I do miss the flexibility of cold weather fashion though. Leather jacket + jeans + boots + scarf is such a cool combination.

This is a nice look. What do you do for pants? Assuming jeans, but loose-fitting or tight, and light or dark?

I usually wear slim (not skinny) jeans from Zara, a nice faded blue, I like everything to look slightly weathered.

The advantage of linen is that it's moisture wicking, which means if it's the first layer next to your skin, it will absorbe the moisture, and then quickly it will dry out, keeping you cool. So linen shirts (I prefer a regular button-up, an with sleaves rolled up). Linen shorts can work as well, but for longer trousers the better move is tropical wool (yes, wool), which is lightweight, open wave (more air moving) and not slim, but in a straight cut, so again, there's more air motion as you walk.

The way to get an edge up in the summer is footwear and accessories.

You can wear a linen shirt and shorts and change the whole vibe of the outfit by going, say, leather loafers and a dress watch with a leather strap, tuck in the shirt in the (ideally, high waisted) shorts (more elegant, classy, formal) or canvas sneakers and a diver watch with a canvas strap, shirt untucked (more casual, relaxed). Bracelets, necklace, sunglasses, caps/hats are other elements to play with.

i’ve spent some time in really hot places and when the highs are around 35 celsius/95 fahrenheit everyday, the idea of layering gets thrown out the window.

linen is a great, material, but as @Lantern pointed out, many other materials can also work if you can find them in a loose enough weave (which you won’t at most stores).

generally, you want 1. really light/loose and breathable fabrics, 2. looser fits (luckily this is in style now), and 3. less material (shorts arent as hot as pants, etc).

as far as looking cool, being in shape (lean and muscular) plus accessories goes a long way. being jacked is such an advantage when it’s hot and you can’t layer

so

shirts: loose linen button-ups, light polos, tank tops, t-shirts

bottoms: loose/baggy linen or similar pants, similar shorts, those baggy jorts that are in

shoes: loafers, low top sneakers, espadrilles, birkenstocks are back in now

accessories: watch, sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets, rings, hat

if you’re getting insane temps like 40s, then covering up from the sun can actually be better than wearing less clothes. but at that point i’d just stay inside anyway.

when i lived in southeast asia, i’d generally wear shorts, a t-shirt or tank top, and canvas sneakers during the day, and then linen pants, a short sleeve button-up, and either canvas sneakers or a pair of suede dress shoes that i had at night when i went out
