Had a date, she had a friend's birthday so left after an hour (She told me this when we met, I was dissapointed and did a good job of hiding it).

Her friends kept texting and she ignored them, after about an hour of date I was teasing her and put my arm around her, then kept it there. As soon as I did I couldn't think of anyway to continue the conversation naturally so just started talking about how there was nothing left to talk about. About 15 seconds later that's when she decided it was time to go. This time I couldn't hide that I was dissapointed even though I was trying so hard, and really struggled to keep making good conversation while I was walking her to public transport.

Does this count as failed escalation?

Texted her the next day saying I had fun, was away for a week but when I got back we should grab a bite, then capped it off with an injoke.

She replied she had fun, and she was leaving for college but would be back in 2 months (smiley face), to enjoy my trip, and capped it off with a reply to the injoke.

Is this just good timing for her to let me down easy? If I was rejecting someone this is almost EXACTLY what I would say, and then I'd just wait out the 2 months and hope they forget about me. Her college isn't even far, I'm sure she'll be back intermittently anyway...

You can always hope but I wouldn't place all of your eggs in an unsure basket so to speak. Try talking to other people and if she pops up then great, if not then at least you didn't stress about it overly
