Intro.

After a few false-starts in getting started and committing to cold approach, I've finally decided to take the plunge and commit myself to completing the Newbie Assignment. I've relied too much on social circle throughout my college years and I've realized that it's gonna take more than relying on social circle if I really want to become successful at cold approach and forever improve my sex and dating life with women. The newbie assignment has repeatedly been hailed on these forums as a perfect place to start but I stubbornly thought that I could skip over it due to my social experience. However, that was foolish of me to think that way and now I realize how mistaken I was. Therefore, I'm going to be going all in and do everything in my power to successfully complete the newbie assignment.

I've already made a commitment contract on stickk.com to further raise the stakes since I'm the type of person who really needs something to be on the line for me to get and stay focused. I've put up $100 at stake to be donated to an anti-charity(House Majority PAC: supporting House Democrats) to really get me in gear.

This journal will also force me to be held accountable publicly and to track my progress so if I puss out I'll have to deal with some shit from you guys :).

My deadline is July 4, 2017. I wanted to give myself an extra week to complete the newbie assignment to take some pressure off and to give myself the ability to repeat some days in case I don't successfully complete a certain day's assignment the first time around.

I can be very stubborn sometimes so don't be afraid to call me out and give me some tough love if you sense me making excuses, victimizing, or just plain wussing out. I've had this cloud over my head for some time telling myself I'm gonna learn cold approach and beat my approach anxiety, but I kept procrastinating and distracting myself out of fear and insecurity. Time to change.

I'm currently on summer break with no summer classes and haven't found a part-time job yet (I'm hunting though!), so I'll be working through this assignment daily since I have the free time. Feel free to comment and/or send me a private message if you have some advice on ways I can improve.

I'm about to hit the city and make some observations for Day 1.

Day 1 - Observation

This was over the course of the past few days as I've been constantly keeping an eye out for turnover rate and new places to meet girls regularly. Tuesday, I went to one of the college bars around 7pm to to inquire about a bartending job and practice getting to know the staff on off nights. This was the first time I've ever gone to a bar by myself without the intention of meeting up with people later. I arrive and the bar is pretty dead, there's like 3 other guys in there and only 1 bartender. I ask if the owner was stopping by (since I happen to know him and wanted to talk to him about working there) and she told me that I just missed him, but proceeded to tell me the times he usually stops by.

I ordered a Corona and chilled out to get used to being out alone, I was mostly on my phone which is not a habit I intend to do regularly while rolling solo but did so to ease the pressure of rolling solo. The bartender for the next shift stopped in and I started asking the girl how they go about hiring bartenders and whatnot. The guy ended up joining in the conversation at some point and they were both informing me on working as a bartender there and that they usually go off of word-of-mouth and sometimes they promote their barbacks. It was a way of making some small talk and I have been hunting for a nightlife job, which provides me a legitimate reason to be visiting bars solo. I finish my Corona and say bye to the bartender and to the one dude who was left (the others that were in the bar when I arrived had all left by this point) and headed downtown to drive around and observe the city to see how many people would be out.

I drove around downtown and some side streets multiple times and didn't see many people out and about. This was from about 8pm to 8:45/9ish on a Tuesday night, so it is still early in the week to be fair. I went back yesterday and walked around for a few hours and there were considerably more people out and about on Thursday evening (I walked around from about 7:30 to 9pm) I know the assignment said pick 4 places, but I've been scouting venues for the past year or so around the area and the places that I've found to have a consistently decent turnover rate are:

  • 1. The mall (residential, not in the city)
    2. Barnes & Noble (down the street from the mall)
    3. Earth Fare/Mustard Seed Market
    4. University Gym
    5. Campus (during the school year for sure, I haven't observed much over the summer but will be in the next week since summer classes just started up this past week)

I haven't explored the city very thoroughly which is why I've started to spend more time walking around and exploring. It's a decent-sized city of ~200K population but it doesn't quite have that "metropolis" feel to it. More like just a hint, which is why I'm making it my mission this summer to explore every nook and cranny so that I can find where the girls and the opportunities are.

More to come stay tuned.
