I read a lot of posts/advice here on the forums that I strongly agree with and think is absolutely spot on, both from a theoretical standpoint, and from applying the things mentioned in my personal life. I am often moved by how much insight the person posting seems to have, and want to show it in some way.

At the same time, I don't want to clutter the boards up with "well said" type comments. Is there any chance we could implement some sort of "thumbs up" system, possibly even showing who liked/appreciated/thumbs upped the post with a mouse-over or something? I don't know if something like this is even feasible on a BBS like this, but I was just wondering.

AFC,

That does sound like a great idea, although as a software engineer (and web developer) myself, I'm assuming something like this cannot be done without modifying the source code. This board was most likely established through a template and such modifications would actually require some significant coding changes. It would be an interesting idea though -- almost every form of "social sharing" media these days has some sort of "thumbs up/down" approach toward posting (YouTube, Twitter, Redit, Instagram, etc).

Maybe as the board gets more popular, something similar can be established. =)

I think its a great idea and worth implementing I would also suggest;

visitor messages (on profiles, like fb wall)
Find latest started threads (option on the profile screen)

I'll look into it. No promises. We're using phpBB here, which presents a nice finished product but is rather beastly to get modifications onto. We looked into a star-rating system before launching and it didn't work out terribly well... but there may be other options; let's see.

@ Franco, sweet! We're in the same line of work, and coding can be a nightmare at times. Touch the wrong line and then you get tons of error messages. One thing I know from experience making things more user friendly means more work for the programmer.

@AFCnoob it wold be an awesome idea as it would help the quality of my posts.
