Tips getting a girl on a cardio machine

I could use some tips for how to pick up a girl at the gym.

I often see her on the treadmill, with the treadmills immediately next to her empty. She's wearing headphones. Her treadmill is near the drinking fountain though, so the best I can come up with is to go get water, and then smile at her on my way back to my machine across the room. No idea where to go from there though. I guess just see if she smiles back? And if she doesn't, would it be a no go anyway?

Any advice would be appreciated.
