Yeah it changes from person to person, I did what you hate doing (counting calories, restrictive diet), and it did suck, although it worked and was most time efficient. Went from 220 to 170s 5 or 6 years ago in a few months at 6’2. 22%bf to 10%.
What played the biggest role for me was how active I was. if you’re gonna be relaxed about your diet then you’d better make sure you’re hitting the gym hard and consistently. High intensity cardio if you hate long sessions (I do).
Otherwise your body will work to get you back to your set weight.
Save your diet type meals for days where you’re more sedentary, or skipping the gym. I fasted from 8-12pm because I don’t really get hungry in the morning (still don’t), helped to keep my calories down and takes way less discipline.
Took a while to figure out but once I did,
pretty much ate what I wanted, and felt less compelled to pig out because you aren’t restricting yourself so much.
Appetite hasn’t really changed since those days, so it’s been pretty sustainable. But again, you have to hit the gym.
