Hey everyone, I had a few quick questions. How do you get that sexy purr in your voice like the george clooney voice? I have read Chase's book and its super helpful but I am not able to adopt the purr? Has anyone had any success with the purr? Also How can you make your voice deeper? I already speak with confidence, good posture, from my chest, breathing from stomach and my voice sounds pretty good but how do i make it deeper still? Thanks everyone!!

Good questions. When Chase refers to "purring" I believe he is referring to vocal fry. There are tons of videos on the web showing what vocal fry sounds like.

Theres a vocal exercise you can practice daily that will help you to add purr/vocal fry to your voice, and to deepen it as well. Here's the link to the video describing the vocal exercise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BZvy5So1vM

I've been doing it every day for a few months and have noticed improvements, but I'm not exactly where I want to be just yet. I can consistently hold vocal fry at the end of my sentences but I can't hold it for the whole sentence. And my vocal range has improved. I was thinking about going to see a vocal coach to figure out some more vocal exercises to do.

ok i have tried the king kong bing bong before and have noticed only a temporary effect over time would you say its given you a longer lasting effect also i have heard its strains your vocal chords if you do it too often is that true? Is it consistent and permanent improvements? Also thank you so much for explaining vocal fry, I will look into that now

Thank You

Repetition is key. Have you ever tried talking in a silly accent for a while and before you knew it, it was kind of stuck? And you actually had to consciously revert back to your normal voice? It's kind of like that. Try the exercise and then go around speaking like this. You can also read books out loud in that voice if it helps. It's all about forming a vocal habit. If you're not used to it, it can kind of tire your vocal cords out (just like you can overwork a muscle you haven't really focused on before while working out), so just drink lots of water and keep practicing. Over time, your vocal cords will get used to it.

There are two keys to a deeper, low pitch and confident voice; Breathing and neck muscles.
Breathing with your upper chest and throat gives you a nasal, high pitch voice because you are putting to much pressure on your vocal chords. Learning how to breathe with your diaphragm takes that pressure off the vocal chords. If you like me never learned how to breathe with it, it will take some time to not only be able to control the diaphragm but also to use it while having a conversation with someone.
To try this out, read something out loud like you normally would, then pinch your nose and read it again. If you find yourself having trouble speaking while holding your nose or your voice sounds weird its because you are speaking to much with your vocal chords and not by using your diaphragm.
