How to approach a girl who's sitting/standing behind you ?

The same way you would if it was one of your buddies and you wanted to talk about something you guys shared an interest in.
In a stadium seating situation, there is nothing wrong with turning around and saying, "Hello, I'm FT, what's your name?" with your arm over the back of the chair. Be sure to shake her hand and make eye contact. If you can get conversation going, invite her to come sit next to you, so you " can hear her better and not get a kink in your neck". Sometimes that's not feasible, and it is a good sign if you can get her to lean down and speak in your ear. Incidental touch during this time is extremely arousing...especially when her lips graze your ear.
If the venue is not conducive to conversation, and she can't move,arrange to meet her outside to continue it. " I want to talk to you more about this assignment. Let's talk right after lecture, and hammer out the details. Number?" Then text her during the talk (phone on silent) with your name.

Depends.....what sort of mindset is she in?
I was standing around in a food court recently, trying to figure out what store to choose to eat from. This lady was in the area, obviously doing the same thing. Then she came and stood directly behind me. From there, it was simple. I sort of twisted my body halfway around, and said,
She replied well, so I opened my body language some more and turned to face her some more. We started chatting about our difficulties in choosing food.
In closing my tips are, 1) don't face your body fully towards her right off the bat (a good rule of thumb for any approach, not just these sorts of ones) until you get some investment from her and 2) Figure out what she's thinking, and then open her indirectly by commenting on that.

SF that reminds me of an interaction I had in the Airport last week. I was on my way to a weekend rendezvous, and was going to get my dick wet in about 2.5 hours. I'd forgotten my neck pillow and was going to pick out a book from the little shop in the terminal. As I was perusing the wall with novels, a slender lady came up behind me. I engaged her in conversation about forgetting a book and pillow when she reached around in front of me and picked a book off the rack, right in my personal space. No "Excuse me" or anything. She stayed close in my proximity and made strong eye contact. Definite IOI.
I engaged her in more conversation and noticed a big rock on her left hand, as well as her fake lashes and some lines around her eyes that indicated signs of age or a life lived hard. She asked where I was headed, and I replied with a city to the north, while she volunteered she was headed to one in the south. At that point I ejected and paid for my book. Given different circumstances, that could have easily lead to sitting down together by the gate and having a conversation before getting on a plane together.
I seriously credit the mindset that I had sex waiting for me that I gave off a vibe of being approachable and confident. Maybe my senses were heightened to be looking for signs of interest. Something to think about...."STATES"
