Proga, pick one of us!

Me and my wingman were talking to three single women. #1 was cute. #2 was ugly. #3 was too old.
#2 liked me. #1 was flirting with me. #1 & #2 asked me to pick one of them. I couldn't believe this was happening but I also knew I was doomed.
After some attempts to avoid the question I picked #1. She pretended not to hear me and #2 was offended.
How should I have handled this shit test?

'Hey how's a man to pick between two lovely ladies?' *Big grin, arm around the both of them*. I would think as long as you include them both, you hit up both numbers and only call the cutie then your gucci in the long run!

Not sure how you would handle this situation completely smoothly...but definitely don't flat out pick one without giving good justification. Here's an alternate way you could have done this which will cause significantly less damage:

You: Well...it's close, but I'm going to have to go with [name of number one] because I don't date girls with x feature which girl number 2 has...they're just not my type. [To number 2] But you still seem like a nice person!

Also...make sure it's something which is neutral or even attractive. Don't pick a feature which is universally unattractive or there's a high likelihood that the girl is insecure of. For example, you don't want to say "I don't date girls who are fat" because that would be implying that #2 is fat. Examples of features you might want to use are: Blonde/Brunette hair, tall/short, brown/blue/green eyes, have xyz accent, etc.
...Admittedly, she might be insecure about any one of those things, but it seems far less likely than insecurity about something like her weight or her race/ethnicity etc.
