Hey There,
Pretty new here.
I have replaced some words with "AA" for the sake of privacy.
Decided to start the newbie assignment yesterday, but it was a national holiday and everywhere closed.
Today I headed to the nearest shopping centre at about 11:15am to Say Hi! to 6 women but it tuned out much better than I though and I strongly feel I could get a number.
First Hi, right when I was entering the mall.
Me: Hi
Her: (somehow shocked)
Me: Where is Coles? (She had Coles bags in her hands)
Her: (Relaxes and smiles as a relief) blah, blah
Me: Thank you (with a big smile)
We part ways, and I say with myself, that was easy, feeling good.
Thinking how to get the second one? I see a silver shop, one of those set up in the middle of the corridor, a girl standing in front speaking with the saleswoman. I get close to start a conversation with the buyer at some point.
Me to the saleswoman: What is your necklace range?
The buyer turns to me and says that card mentions the prices, turns out the buyer is the second saleswoman, so that doesn't count.
I go into a sport equipment selling store, I spot a woman next to pants rack, get close to her, I say Hi, she says nothing and moves away. Feeling rejected. Feeling I breached her privacy.
I go into a big clothing store, I move around, I see a woman standing next to a column close to pants rack, I get close start checking some pants turn towards the woman and say Hi, she is actually an old woman, says Hi.
Walking in the mall, I see a girl on her own walking towards me I make eye contact, she refuses, I go forward anyway, she somehow pulls away, I say Hi.
She: That ? on her face.
Me: Where is Coles?
She: I am not quite sure, hm... go.. turn..., but I am not sure
Me: Your sense of orientation is bad as me (smile)
She: Cold smile, starts walking
Me: (I start walking next to her) thank you
She: replies but moves away,
I stopped walking with her
I start hoping I can get another good conversation.
Walking down a corridor, spot a lady, she is walking checking her phone, I get close. She doesn't recognize my presence till I say Hi and still recieved the Hi pretty nice.
Me: Hi
She: (looks up with a nice smile)(No ? in her face) Hi
Me: Do you know where Coles is?
She: I know but it is somehow hard to give you the direction.
Me: Have you been to this mall before?
She: Yes, but still I get confused, let me walk you to it.
Me: Sure (We start walking)
Me: Are you here to meet some friend?
She: No, I am picking up my kids, we will watch a film, they are with their aunt and they are late.
Me: How many kids have you got?
She: 3 (I saw some feeling in her face, maybe she was thinking her prime is over after 3 kids)
Me: You look too young to have 3 kids (thinking with myself, ask him about the dad, which I don't)
She: (Big smile.) Do I?
Me: Sure. How Old are you?
She: 37.
Me: Where are you from?
She: Background or suburb?
Me: Background
She: I am Indian Australian
Me: So you grandparents moved here?
She: My grandfather moved here when he was 8
Me: Wow!
She: Where are you from?
Me: I am from AA
She: When did you come here?
Me: I came here when ... (I think if I say I came here when I was AA it doesn't answer her question clearly, so I restart my sentence) I came here AA years ago, we are about the same age. (I can see now that there are several issues here: being too clear and removing ambiguity, giving too much info. which she didn't ask for)
Me: My name is Tom by the way (I extend my hand)
She: (Received my hand) My name is Alice.
Me: Have you got any plans for the long weekend?
She: (Thinks a bit) Spend time with family.
Me: Yeah, to keep it relaxing.
She: There is the concierge there, let's go and ask.
Me: Awesome.
(We get to the concierge, I think: "Shall I tell her you are in rush and I am good with English and I will ask?" But I think let her do it for you, this is compliance. She asks and turn to me and repeats the address.)
Me: Thank you, nice to meet you.
She: See you.
I think I could easily phone close her. She was very compliant and ready to do it with me? First I didn't expect it go that well and hadn't thought I would be able to phone close, another cause might have been the possibility that she was still engaged.
I walk away,, after a while I realize I could phone close her and start blaming myself. Anyway, I feel I got a very good energy out of it.
I spot a girl standing by her own at a café, I think I will grab a coffee and will sit next to her. (I go in the café thinking, what if by the time you order café you miss the situation, also you are in good vibe now, say a few more Hi while you are warmed up and finish it.) I go to the café anyway.
I order coffee, while waiting I head out of the café spot another girl walking towards me. Black lightly curly hair, black t-shirt, black short.
Me: Hi
She: Has that a? on her face.
Me: Do you know where Coles is? I am tired looking for it.
She: (Smiles) I feel you, go.. turn...
Me: Go...
She repeats
Me: Thank you
She: Good luck.
When I go to get my coffee the salesgirl receives me very well, with an energy that is new to me, maybe she saw me approaching that girl.
I get my coffee, the girl at the café is now on phone and the seat next to her occupied, so I lost the opportunity.
Have my coffee, on the way out of mall I think 6 is done, but I do some more which ran smoothly.
