Simple question guys; Should my shirt be tucked in or out? Which one looks more attractive?

Depends what you're wearing.

If you're wearing a tshirt and jeans and you tuck your shirt in I'd say that's kind of lame, but at the same token if you're wearing a suit and you don't tuck your shit in you're going to look stupid too.

What are you wearing?

Mr Rob, my simple attire would be a button-up shirt, jean and shoes. I'm liking the way it looks tucked-in (wearing a belt) but then the idea comes into my mind that maybe it looks too classy for college. What do you think?

Btw, Drexel, that never gets unattended ;)

I saw Drexel make an absolutely phenomenal comment recently in which he told the man seeking advice "Do whatever YOU want to do"

Meaning however you like your look is how you should rock it. Fuck what anyone thinks. Obviously if no one will talk to you because of the way your dressed then consider changing it up.

But yeah wear it how you want to wear it and own whatever that style is. See the responses you get and if you want to tweak them or not.

Mr Rob, Drexel: scientific minds like to find out the psychology of things and worry about their own psychology when alone.
Saying "wear what ever you want" means that -no matter how fashionable you dress, if you don't know how to talk to a girl, how to flirt, how to move things forward, your clothing wont do anything to get you laid.
However, I must point out that is not the topic at hand. This topic is about how to dress nice, so I'm going to continue doing that ;)

To start off I've found out that t-shirts tucked-out look better most of the time. Unless you have a blazer or jacket, in which case both ways look good.

(Never mind his posture though)

Now, between this two:
tuck-vs-untucked1.jpg

The guys with the shirt tucked-out, the man in the right, looks younger, the kind of guy you'd find out drinking beers and playing billiards in a party. Usually this is a relaxed attitude; goes very well with the arms of the shirt rolled.
While, Tucked-in, the one on the left, has a mature vibe, more sexy in my opinion though not more sexual like Tucked-out. This guy probably has a job.
Overall, I prefer to do tucked-in rolled-sleeves since it helps the male figure (triangle thing) stand out.

Rhyme,

Here's the quick rundown:

  • Are you wearing dress pants?
    • Yes: Tuck in your dress shirt.

No (I'm wearing jeans): Leave your dress shirt untucked.

This is also visible in the photos you shared of the two guys side by side -- if you look carefully, you can see the fella in the right photo is actually wearing jeans.

NOTE: Under some circumstances, you can tuck a dress(-ier) shirt into jeans, but 95% of the time it does not look as good. One circumstance might be when you're wearing a vest; it doesn't look too bad to tuck your dress shirt into jeans then, but even I still leave mine untucked. And if you're wearing dress pants, you should tuck in your dress shirt 100% of the time.

Hey Rhyme,

Franco's rundown is pretty much on point, however I also have another rule:
If I'm wearing something over the button down which is part of my outfit while I'm out, (blazer, cardigan, jacket) that equals green light to tuck in shirt. If not, it's a no go for me. However, if I don't feel like tucking it in I don't. I do however feel like a boss when I do ;)

tvktvk (interesting name btw)-
I tend to agree with what Franco and you said. There are times when having a brazer or jacket asks for a tucked in shirt, specially when you want to look classy. I know what you mean, the feeling from the tucked in shirt does make you feel a lot more powerful, or manly to put it in other words; that's why I was so skeptical about not tucking in at first, but once you start looking at guys with tucked-in shirt and jeans you understand that it looks weird and un-fashionable (specially when it's a t-shirt) Hell, my 55 year old dad does it haha! I love him, but fashion is always modern and he ain't a bit modern... Well, he does have facebook... and I don't... so who knows!

;)

This is probably breaking some rule or standard but I've been experimenting with and liking the tucking in a dress shirt log. Sleeve or short sleeve with dark jeans nice belt and boots (gonna by some leather ones soon :) ; just use hiking ones right now but aren't quite as nice imo).

Don't know if it would fit most guys and the standard advice Franco suggests seem to sound and fit bit better for most guys; but I' have muscles and like that I can downplay them and very coolly suavely understate them with a shirt tucked in that fits tight. And then more importantly (why I got into tying this) tucked out covers my ass sometimes and I have a decent ass that looks better tucked in and wearing jeans when it comes to certain looks.
Lol.

I'm still experimenting with This but am excited and am enjoying this alternate look. It's stylish and a bit daring and definitely vastly different to what the majority of shithead guys my age are wearing haha. A bit daring and risky too perhaps, but a bit of risk and polarization for more polarization and potential return on the other end I theorize.

;)

I see that this is an old thread but I can't not to bump it because this is still a popular topic in many fashionable discussions :) As I understood from many fashionable resources and my own experience the tucked shirts are cool in fact only in one case, for the formal attire at work or some special occasions :) For all other cases much cooler to wear the untucked ones, like on these examples http://stylemann.com/best-untucked-shirts/, such type is good for many styles in fashion, looks cool and hot for girls :)
Personally I prefer to wear almost everywhere the untucked ones :)
