Just a bit of my observation,
Generally, bragging is good when you need to get good at something. Usually when you have a small achievement, you brag, some people give you approval, and you'll be more motivated to work on it.
Bragging is bad when you need the approval, not the thing itself. Because a good social strategist will act unimpressed, and generally you'll look weak.
Usually it is a bad idea to get things to impress people. Like if you're getting really good at violin to impress people, generally people except violinists won't be impressed.
So better if you get the things that satisfy yourself. Such as money (buy warm 'n cozy stuffs), bodybuilding (scare off other guys), girls (sex feels good).
So competing on those areas and brag about it. It will get you more motivation.
