This whole thing is pretty difficult to get to the bottom of, because there's no way to prove whether or not one strategy actually works better than the other. They both sound good:

1. Ignore the situation - I'm above it.
2. Dominate the situation - I'm in charge of it.

I can see both working out if the guy is unreactive and handles it smoothly. I know guys who are like armwrestlers at seizing the initiative, they will skilfully jump on an opportunity and don't let go until everyone is listening to them. It's not reactiveness, it's a form of self expression, and it doesn't tire them out or make them needy whatsoever. Often other people are kind of annoyed at first, but a few minutes later they are completely comfortable being led along.

Then there are quiet guys who know how to draw attention to themselves with silence, and make other people keenly aware of them without saying a word.

And not all women respond the same way to each type of guy, some of them are drawn to a boisterous, dominant guy, others are drawn to a mysterious, enigmatic type of guy.

I will say that there are situations where silence and reservedness simply doesn't cut it, where you have to be able to put out words with immediate effect in positions where you don't have implicit authority, and you have to be absolutely sure of your ability to do so.

Determine what you consider disrespectful for yourself and draw the line.
When someone tiptoes around it, you let them know (without overheating) and enforce those boundaries.

Being unreactive is valid.
Being a pushover is not .
So if a guy grabs your girls ass you won't do anything because you are being "unreactive"?

Those rules should not be dogmas. Being a man and keeping a healthy relationship, you need to have honest discussions and establish boundaries for your girl to follow.
And her sitting there and flirting with the taxi driver while ignoring me makes me look stupid, so it makes her look stupid as well.
Walking around with a truly attractive woman, especially if you don't look that special yourself, a lot of men will try to disrespect you in subtle ways, sometimes even flirt with her in your face. She has to take your side and be respectful.

If we just started dating she might need to see my boundaries so she will test them. Me just being unreactive in that case is weak, but just leaving is also too much, weak in some way because it shows I don't know how to handle myself.

So the answer is asserting my boundaries firmly, and if she won't listen past a certain point, then I leave .

There are women who enjoy drama all the time, that's not what I had in mind though. If I already established some clear rules and told her the consequences if she breaks them, then I will just leave . But I believe every woman even the least dramatic wants to see your dominance and masculinity in a crisis. I won't break up with her because she tested once or twice in the beginning of our relationship.
